  • Makes it easy for the patients to make payments
  • Provides you with one single payment for both the payor and patient responsibilities
  • Reduces your secondary billing activities and costs
  • Reduces your bad debt attributable to patient collections
  • Positions your facility as a leader in acceptance of electronic patient payments

What payors currently support MFS Patient Pay?

Our initial participating payor for MFS Patient Pay is Aetna.  For Aetna Providers and patients, MFS Patient Pay is also known as “Easy Pay.”

How does MFS Patient Pay work?

MFS Patient Pay collects the patient portion of medical claims from patients via the credit card or debit card provided by the patient.  MFS Patient Pay then combines the patient portion of the medical claim with the payor portion into one single combined payment for the Provider.  At the same time, MFS Patient Pay – through MFS Gateway – will provide an electronic remittance advice (ERA) that corresponds to the single combined payment.

How will we receive payments for the patient portion of medical claims?

All patient payments are received through the MFS Gateway in combination with the relevant payor payments.  Each day you will receive an electronic payment to your designated bank account.  Additionally, each day you will receive an email from MFS Gateway that indicates the amount of the payment and the availability of corresponding ERAs on the MFS Gateway web portal.

How do we know not to bill the patient for patient payments that we receive through MFS Patient Pay?

If you are currently receiving and processing 835s, the 835 that you receive through MFS Patient Pay will indicate there is no further patient responsibility.  If you are not currently receiving 835s and instead review paper explanations of payment (EOPs), the EOP will also indicate that there is no further patient responsibility.  In either case, you will know through your current billing procedures that no further patient billing should occur.

Is a patient payment discount required for participation?

Yes – a patient payment discount is required to participate in MFS Patient Pay.  The patient payment discount is the inducement for patients to pay electronically in advance utilizing MFS Patient Pay.  It is only applied to patient payments made through MFS Patient Pay.  Most Providers offer a 10% discount from the amount of the patient liability.  However, MFS Patient Pay allows for hospitals to determine their own particular discount level subject to a minimum of 5%.
